- Naivasha Sopa Lodge
Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge is a comfortable resort located on the southern shore of Lake Naivasha, within Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. The property sits on approximately 150 acres of open grassland, acacia trees and landscaped gardens, creating a spacious setting close to the lake. Its location makes it a practical stop between Nairobi and other safari destinations such as the Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru and Hell’s Gate National Park.
One of the most interesting parts of staying here is the wildlife that regularly moves through the lodge grounds. Guests may see giraffes, waterbucks, monkeys and other animals while walking around the property, while hippos are commonly found around Lake Naivasha. Because hippos can come onto land after dark, guests should always follow lodge safety instructions and use an escort when required during the evening.
The lodge has 21 two storey cottages arranged across the grounds, with spacious rooms designed for couples, families and groups. Upstairs rooms generally have a king size bed and private balcony, while downstairs rooms can offer two queen size beds with direct access to the gardens. Rooms include private bathrooms and generous living space, making Lake Naivasha Sopa a good choice for travellers who prefer a larger resort style property rather than a small safari camp.
Guests can enjoy a swimming pool, restaurant, bars, spa facilities and large outdoor areas between activities. Meals include buffet and à la carte options with a mixture of Kenyan, Swahili, Mediterranean and international dishes, while different dietary requirements can normally be accommodated with advance notice. The property also has conference facilities and plenty of communal space, so the atmosphere is generally more active and social than at a small boutique lodge.
We recommend Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge for travellers who want a comfortable base for exploring Lake Naivasha and the surrounding Rift Valley. From here, we can arrange activities such as boat trips on Lake Naivasha, nature walks, visits to Hell’s Gate National Park, birdwatching and excursions around the Naivasha area. It works particularly well for families, couples and safari travellers who want spacious rooms, good facilities and convenient access to several nearby attractions.

Every great safari includes a comfortable place to rest after a day of adventure. Whether you are staying in a luxury lodge, tented camp, or budget-friendly accommodation, it is natural to have questions about comfort, location, meals, and facilities. Here, we have answered the most common questions travelers ask about safari accommodation, so you can plan with confidence and enjoy a relaxing stay in the heart of Tanzania’s wilderness.
Yes. Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge is a good choice for couples, families and safari travellers who want spacious rooms, large gardens and resort style facilities close to Lake Naivasha. The lodge is set on approximately 150 acres and offers a relaxed environment where animals such as giraffes, waterbucks and monkeys may sometimes be seen around the grounds. It also works well as an overnight stop between Nairobi, Lake Nakuru and the Masai Mara.
Standard rooms at Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge start from around USD 145 per person per night, while Suite rooms start from around USD 240 per person per night. The final price depends on your travel dates, room arrangement, number of guests and selected meal plan.
Rates can change between low, shoulder and peak seasons, so these prices should be used as a starting guide only. When we include Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge in your Kenya safari, we confirm the current availability and exact rate for your specific travel dates before booking.
Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge is located on the southern shore of Lake Naivasha in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. The property is surrounded by grassland, acacia trees and landscaped gardens close to the lake. Its location makes it convenient for travellers visiting Lake Naivasha, Hell’s Gate National Park and other destinations along a Kenya safari route.
The lodge is roughly a few hours by road from Nairobi, depending on traffic and road conditions on the day of travel. This makes Lake Naivasha a practical first or final safari stop for travellers starting or ending their journey in Nairobi. We normally plan enough travel time so guests can arrive comfortably without making the safari schedule unnecessarily rushed.
Guests may see giraffes, waterbucks, monkeys and different bird species around the lodge grounds. Hippos are also found around Lake Naivasha and may move onto land, particularly after dark. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, and guests should always follow staff instructions when walking around the property, especially during the evening.
The lodge has 21 two storey cottages with spacious guest rooms. Upstairs rooms generally feature a king size bed and a private furnished balcony, while downstairs rooms can have two queen size beds and access towards the gardens. Each room has a private bathroom and generous interior space. The most suitable room type depends on whether you are travelling as a couple, family, friends or a larger group.
Yes. Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge is particularly suitable for families because of its spacious rooms, large grounds, swimming pool and resort style facilities. Families can also combine their stay with activities around Lake Naivasha and nearby attractions. However, because wildlife can move through the property, parents should follow the lodge’s safety guidance and supervise children when necessary.
A stay at Lake Naivasha can be combined with several activities, including boat trips on Lake Naivasha, birdwatching, nature experiences and visits to Hell’s Gate National Park. Depending on your itinerary, other activities may include horseback riding, bush meals and sundowner experiences. We normally recommend choosing activities based on how much time you have in Naivasha rather than trying to fit too much into one day.
Yes. A Lake Naivasha boat trip can normally be arranged as part of your stay in the area. During the boat trip, guests may see hippos, water birds and other wildlife around the lake. Boat trips are usually arranged separately from the room unless specifically included in your safari package, so we recommend confirming this when booking.
Yes. Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge is well positioned for travellers who want to visit Hell’s Gate National Park during their stay in Naivasha. Hell’s Gate is known for its dramatic Rift Valley scenery and outdoor activities. It can usually be included as a half day or full day excursion depending on the rest of your itinerary.
