Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Masai Mara to Arusha, Then Tarangire National Park

Your journey begins with a transfer to the appropriate Masai Mara airstrip for your confirmed flight connection to Tanzania.

On arrival at Arusha Airport, meet your Tanzania Safari Experience guide and continue by road to Tarangire National Park. Your guide will explain the day’s plan, with lunch arrangements and game-drive time tailored to your arrival.

Tarangire is known for its elephants, baobab trees and river landscapes. Begin exploring the park, watching for wildlife as you travel towards your accommodation. Your first afternoon introduces a different setting from the Masai Mara, with time to pause for sightings and photographs.

Later, settle into your lodge or tented camp inside Tarangire National Park. Enjoy dinner and an evening surrounded by the sounds of the bush.

Overnight: Inside Tarangire National Park
Planned meals: Lunch and dinner, depending on flight timing

Activities: Game Drive

Day 2

Early Tarangire Game Drive and Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater Full Board

Start early with a short morning game drive in Tarangire before continuing towards Ngorongoro.

This early departure is essential: today combines wildlife viewing, a road transfer and your crater visit. Your guide will keep the morning drive focused so that there is sufficient time for the journey and crater descent.

As you approach Ngorongoro, the scenery changes from open plains to the cooler highlands. Descend into the crater and explore its grasslands, wetland areas and wildlife habitats. Look for animals such as zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and lions, with the possibility of spotting a black rhino. Every sighting depends on the conditions that day.

Enjoy your packed lunch at a designated picnic area before continuing your game drive. Later, ascend from the crater and travel to Karatu for dinner and a comfortable overnight stay.

Overnight: Karatu
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Activities: Game Drive

Day 3

Lake Manyara Game Drive and Kilimanjaro Airport Transfer

After breakfast, leave Karatu and head to Lake Manyara National Park for your final safari day.

Explore its forest roads and changing habitats, looking for monkeys, baboons, elephants and birdlife. Lake Manyara’s combination of woodland, lake scenery and Rift Valley views gives your journey a varied finish.

Enjoy a morning game drive, followed by lunch and further wildlife viewing into the afternoon where your departure time allows.

Then travel to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home. We plan your park departure around the road journey and your airline’s check-in requirements.

An evening or late-night flight is the best fit for this itinerary. If your flight leaves earlier, we shorten the Lake Manyara visit or recommend an additional overnight stay.

Overnight: None
Planned meals: Breakfast and lunch

Activities: Game Drive

    Great Tanzanian vacation

We toured with Tanzania Safari Experience for an eight day trip to Tanzania. Five days of safari and then three days of beach vacation in Zanzibar. They were great to work with and customized everything exactly the way we wanted it. The lodges we were booked in were all incredible, particularly the Lahia Tented Lodge in the Serengeti. Our driver, Jay, seemed to know every road in every national park and as a result the wildlife viewing was unparalleled. There were times where we were the only vehicle seeing lions or hippos. The owner, Laurent, was extremely responsive and any issues we had in-country with our logistics were immediately sorted by him. He genuinely wanted us to have a first-rate experience. The only thing we were unprepared for is that some of the days in the safari vehicle were very long (10+ hours) and the roads can be really rough. But there were plenty of cold drinks in the car and it was worth it to see the wildlife. The safari/beach split was a great way to do the vacation and the beaches of Zanzibar were beautiful with clear blue water.

    Safari May 2026

This company exceeded everything we’d hoped for. From the start, the tour operator had everything covered — a detailed itinerary laid out well in advance, quick responses to any questions, and a genuine attentiveness that made the whole thing feel effortless. The accommodation was seriously impressive. Not what I was expecting at all — comfortable, well-appointed, and luxurious. We also spent time right in the heart of the bush. A proper treat. The two people who really made this trip were our guide Mariki and photographer Agnes. Mariki’s knowledge of the bush and animal behaviour is something else — he always seemed to know exactly where to go, and his instincts paid off every single time. Agnes has a brilliant eye and captured shots we could never have got ourselves. As for the wildlife — we saw far more than we ever imagined we would. Elephants, lions, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, hippos — the lot. As a first safari, I couldn’t have asked for more. Would recommend without hesitation.

Great Experience with Tanzania Safari Experience

We had an amazing safari with Tanzania Safari Experience, and honestly the whole trip was put together really well by Laurent and his team. From our first message to the last day, they were easy to reach, quick to reply, and clear about everything. The plan made sense, the timing was smooth, and we didn’t have to stress about anything. Uncle J was a big part of what made it special. He knows the parks incredibly well and seems to notice things before anyone else. He’d position the vehicle perfectly for photos and often got us to sightings before the crowds built up. We were lucky to see [your highlights: migration / lions / cheetahs / elephants / a crossing], and every drive felt exciting and different. The vehicle was comfortable and in good shape, and everything ran on schedule. If you’re looking for a well-organized safari with a great guide, I’d definitely recommend Tanzania Safari Experience.

Good to know

Frequently Asked Questions

Where Will You Stay?

Your first night is in a lodge or tented camp within Tarangire National Park. Staying inside the park keeps you close to the wildlife experience and supports an early start the following morning.

Your second night is in Karatu, a practical base between Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara. After the crater visit, you can shower, enjoy dinner and rest before your final day.

We provide the accommodation names, room arrangements and meal plans in your personalised proposal. Choices depend on your budget and availability.

Can I combine the Masai Mara with a three-day Tanzania safari?

Yes, provided the flight connection and your departure schedule fit the route. This itinerary adds Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara after your Kenya safari. We check the incoming flight before confirming the first day.

Is the flight from Masai Mara to Arusha direct?

Do not assume it is direct. The routing may involve connections or stops, depending on the operator and travel date. Your proposal will state the departure airstrip, arrival airport and confirmed flight arrangements.

Is three days enough for these destinations?

Three days can work for this route with a suitable flight arrival and a late departure on the final day. However, it is a busy itinerary. Day two is particularly demanding because it combines an early Tarangire drive, the transfer to Ngorongoro and crater exploration.
If you prefer longer game drives and slower mornings, ask us about a four-day version.

Can we explore Lake Manyara all day and fly home that evening?

That depends on your flight time. Morning and afternoon wildlife viewing requires a late enough departure from Kilimanjaro Airport. We check the transfer and check-in timing first, then confirm how much park time is practical.

Does this safari include the Serengeti?

No. This route visits Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. Adding the Serengeti would require a different itinerary and additional time.
