Nyikani Camp – Central Serengeti (Inside Serengeti National Park)
From Laurent Karume, Tanzania Safari Specialist,
Nyikani Camp Central is one of those places we genuinely love recommending for a true Serengeti experience. The biggest reason is simple but powerful — the fly-in safari flow. The moment you land at Seronera Airstrip, you are already inside the heart of the Serengeti, and within about 20 minutes’ scenic game drive, you can be at the camp. That means your safari starts immediately, not after long exhausting transfers.
We have personally visited this camp, and I can tell you directly — it feels incredible to stay in the middle of the Serengeti. You are not near the park, you are inside it. Wildlife is all around, the atmosphere is raw, and the connection to nature is constant. This is exactly why we strongly recommend staying here for at least 2 nights, so you don’t rush the experience and actually absorb what the Serengeti offers.
Nyikani Central is positioned at the foot of Banagi Hill, giving it elevated views over the endless plains. Even though it is currently a semi-permanent camp, there are plans to develop it into a permanent camp in the future, which reflects its strong positioning and growing popularity in the Serengeti.
The camp itself is well designed to blend into its natural surroundings. It features spacious mess and dining tents, a comfortable lounge area with sofas and locally crafted furniture, and an open fire area that creates a strong bush atmosphere in the evenings. Meals are served either indoors or outdoors depending on conditions, giving a flexible safari dining experience.
The guest tents are spread out to ensure privacy, each with a veranda, comfortable bedding, writing desk, storage, and charging points. The en-suite bathrooms are well organized with safari-style showers and proper facilities, keeping the authentic bush feel without losing comfort. There is also a family tent designed on a raised platform, offering even better views and a more spacious layout.
What makes this camp even more interesting is the wildlife presence. From here, guests regularly experience high chances of seeing lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, cheetahs, hyenas, and more. The Serengeti here is active and unpredictable, which is exactly what a real safari should feel like.
Activities mainly include game drives, and balloon safaris can also be arranged at an additional cost for those who want a different perspective of the plains.
In our honest view, Nyikani Camp Central is one of the best ways to experience the Serengeti properly. It is not just about accommodation — it is about being fully immersed in the park from the moment you land. That is why we recommend planning at least 2 nights here, especially for travellers who want to truly feel the Serengeti instead of just passing through it.

Everything You Need to Know About Your Safari Accommodation
Every great safari includes a comfortable place to rest after a day of adventure. Whether you are staying in a luxury lodge, tented camp, or budget-friendly accommodation, it is natural to have questions about comfort, location, meals, and facilities. Here, we have answered the most common questions travelers ask about safari accommodation, so you can plan with confidence and enjoy a relaxing stay in the heart of Tanzania’s wilderness.
Nyikani Camp is located in Central Serengeti, inside Serengeti National Park, at the foot of Banagi Hill. This area is one of the most active wildlife zones in the entire ecosystem, known for year-round game viewing and frequent predator activity.
The camp is approximately a 20-minute drive from Seronera Airstrip. The route itself is a game drive, meaning you are already spotting wildlife on your way to the camp immediately after landing, which makes the arrival experience feel like part of the safari.
Yes, Nyikani Camp is fully inside Serengeti National Park. This is a major advantage because wildlife moves freely through the area, and guests often experience animals near or even around the camp, especially in the early morning and evening hours.
We strongly recommend a minimum of 2 nights in Central Serengeti at Nyikani Camp. One night is simply not enough to understand the rhythm of the Serengeti. Two nights give you time for multiple game drives, better chances of predator sightings, and a more relaxed safari experience without rushing.
Nyikani Camp is a semi-permanent safari camp designed to balance comfort and authenticity. The tents include proper beds, en-suite bathrooms with safari-style bucket showers, charging points, and private verandas. It is not a luxury lodge, but it delivers a genuine bush experience with essential comfort.
The Central Serengeti area is one of the most reliable wildlife regions in Africa. Guests regularly see lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, and often cheetahs or leopards. Sightings are frequent throughout the year, making it one of the most consistent safari zones.
As your safari experts at Tanzania Safari Experience, we recommend Nyikani Camp because of its unbeatable location inside the Serengeti and its smooth fly-in access. From our experience, it offers one of the most immersive ways to start a Serengeti safari, especially when combined with at least 2 nights in Central Serengeti.
