Nyikani Camp – Central Serengeti (Inside Serengeti National Park)

From Laurent Karume, Tanzania Safari Specialist,

Nyikani Camp Central is one of those places we genuinely love recommending for a true Serengeti experience. The biggest reason is simple but powerful — the fly-in safari flow. The moment you land at Seronera Airstrip, you are already inside the heart of the Serengeti, and within about 20 minutes’ scenic game drive, you can be at the camp. That means your safari starts immediately, not after long exhausting transfers.

We have personally visited this camp, and I can tell you directly — it feels incredible to stay in the middle of the Serengeti. You are not near the park, you are inside it. Wildlife is all around, the atmosphere is raw, and the connection to nature is constant. This is exactly why we strongly recommend staying here for at least 2 nights, so you don’t rush the experience and actually absorb what the Serengeti offers.

Nyikani Central is positioned at the foot of Banagi Hill, giving it elevated views over the endless plains. Even though it is currently a semi-permanent camp, there are plans to develop it into a permanent camp in the future, which reflects its strong positioning and growing popularity in the Serengeti.

The camp itself is well designed to blend into its natural surroundings. It features spacious mess and dining tents, a comfortable lounge area with sofas and locally crafted furniture, and an open fire area that creates a strong bush atmosphere in the evenings. Meals are served either indoors or outdoors depending on conditions, giving a flexible safari dining experience.

The guest tents are spread out to ensure privacy, each with a veranda, comfortable bedding, writing desk, storage, and charging points. The en-suite bathrooms are well organized with safari-style showers and proper facilities, keeping the authentic bush feel without losing comfort. There is also a family tent designed on a raised platform, offering even better views and a more spacious layout.

What makes this camp even more interesting is the wildlife presence. From here, guests regularly experience high chances of seeing lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, cheetahs, hyenas, and more. The Serengeti here is active and unpredictable, which is exactly what a real safari should feel like.

Activities mainly include game drives, and balloon safaris can also be arranged at an additional cost for those who want a different perspective of the plains.

In our honest view, Nyikani Camp Central is one of the best ways to experience the Serengeti properly. It is not just about accommodation — it is about being fully immersed in the park from the moment you land. That is why we recommend planning at least 2 nights here, especially for travellers who want to truly feel the Serengeti instead of just passing through it.

    Safari May 2026

This company exceeded everything we’d hoped for. From the start, the tour operator had everything covered — a detailed itinerary laid out well in advance, quick responses to any questions, and a genuine attentiveness that made the whole thing feel effortless. The accommodation was seriously impressive. Not what I was expecting at all — comfortable, well-appointed, and luxurious. We also spent time right in the heart of the bush. A proper treat. The two people who really made this trip were our guide Mariki and photographer Agnes. Mariki’s knowledge of the bush and animal behaviour is something else — he always seemed to know exactly where to go, and his instincts paid off every single time. Agnes has a brilliant eye and captured shots we could never have got ourselves. As for the wildlife — we saw far more than we ever imagined we would. Elephants, lions, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, hippos — the lot. As a first safari, I couldn’t have asked for more. Would recommend without hesitation.

Great Experience with Tanzania Safari Experience

We had an amazing safari with Tanzania Safari Experience, and honestly the whole trip was put together really well by Laurent and his team. From our first message to the last day, they were easy to reach, quick to reply, and clear about everything. The plan made sense, the timing was smooth, and we didn’t have to stress about anything. Uncle J was a big part of what made it special. He knows the parks incredibly well and seems to notice things before anyone else. He’d position the vehicle perfectly for photos and often got us to sightings before the crowds built up. We were lucky to see [your highlights: migration / lions / cheetahs / elephants / a crossing], and every drive felt exciting and different. The vehicle was comfortable and in good shape, and everything ran on schedule. If you’re looking for a well-organized safari with a great guide, I’d definitely recommend Tanzania Safari Experience.

An absolutely brilliant tour / travel company

What can I say. How do you explain PERFECTION. I will try. From the outset of our trip Ramadhan and Laurent were excellent. We gave them our requirements and budget and they prepared a program that was outstanding. The whole safari went like clockwork. We were met and briefed by Ramadhan on our arrival and introduced to our driver and guide extraordinar Ngoi. We visited Tarangier, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and the Ngorongoro Crater and Zanzibar. Absolutely brilliant trip, we saw the most extraordinary game. All the accommodation arranged for us was magnificent, especially the tented camps, where we were visited by a lion and elephant, scary but exhilarating. So if you are looking for an unforgettable experience look no further than Laurent and Ramadhan from Tanzania Safari Experience. They truly put clients first and foremost and deliver on their promises. Cheers from a very satisfied Chris and Terri Harvey
