Trip Overview

A 5 Day Tanzania Group Safari is one of the best ways to experience Tanzania’s famous wildlife areas while keeping costs lower than a private safari. By joining a small group, you share transport, guide services, and camping facilities while still enjoying excellent wildlife viewing.

This safari suits solo travelers, couples, friends, and budget conscious adventurers who want to visit Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro in a single trip. The route covers Tanzania’s most rewarding wildlife destinations and offers strong chances of seeing the Big Five.

What many travelers don’t realize is that a group safari does not mean large crowds inside the vehicle. Most small group joining safaris operate with limited seating, allowing everyone a window seat during game drives.

In our experience at Tanzania Safari Experience, travelers often underestimate how much ground this itinerary covers. The safari includes long drives between parks, early morning starts, and full wildlife days, but the variety of landscapes and animal encounters makes the journey worthwhile.

What Is Included in a 5 Day Tanzania Group Safari?

A 5 Day Tanzania Group Safari combines three major wildlife destinations into one practical itinerary. Travelers visit Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park, and Ngorongoro Crater while sharing safari costs with other guests.

The safari typically includes transport in a professional safari vehicle, park fees, camping accommodation, meals during the safari, camping equipment, and services of a professional safari guide.

This tour is operated as a camping safari. Guests sleep at designated campsites located inside or near the parks. Camping provides a closer connection to nature and is usually the most affordable way to experience Tanzania’s northern safari circuit.

Important Note: On this tour, you will stay camping during the safari. Accommodation can be upgraded to lodge accommodation for an additional cost.

High demand: This safari books 4–8 weeks ahead during peak season (June–October).

Day-by-Day Itinerary 5 Day Tanzania Group Safari | Small Group Camping — Tanzania Safari

Your safari is carefully planned to maximize wildlife viewing while still giving you time to relax and enjoy the journey. Here’s what you can expect day by day.

DAY 1

Tarangire National Park

The safari begins with departure from Arusha and a drive to Tarangire National Park. The journey typically takes around two to three hours depending on road conditions and traffic.

Tarangire is known for its giant baobab trees and large elephant populations. During the dry season, hundreds of elephants can gather around the Tarangire River, creating some of the park’s most memorable wildlife scenes.

As the game drive progresses, guests often encounter zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, warthogs, and various antelope species. Lions are regularly seen, although sightings can never be guaranteed.

What many travelers don’t realize is that Tarangire frequently delivers some of the best wildlife encounters of the entire safari. After the game drive, the group continues to the campsite for dinner and overnight camping.

DAY 2

Serengeti National Park (central west/east)

Day two includes the drive toward Serengeti National Park. The landscape gradually changes from highlands and woodland areas into open plains that stretch toward the horizon.

The journey itself forms part of the safari experience. Wildlife sightings often begin long before reaching the central Serengeti game viewing areas.

Guests spend the afternoon exploring wildlife rich sections of Serengeti. Depending on the season, sightings may include lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, hyenas, and large herbivore herds.

From the end of December through March, the itinerary may also include the Ndutu area, where the Great Migration calving season attracts predators and large concentrations of wildebeest.

DAY 3

Serengeti

A full day in Serengeti provides time to explore areas that cannot be covered during a shorter visit. Early morning departures maximize wildlife viewing opportunities.

Morning hours are often the best time to search for predators. Lions frequently remain active after sunrise, while cheetahs may be observed scanning the plains.

As temperatures rise, wildlife behavior changes. Many animals seek shade during midday, making the morning and late afternoon periods especially productive.

What travelers miss is how different Serengeti feels throughout the day. Morning offers dramatic wildlife action, while evening delivers softer light and impressive landscapes. Overnight camping continues within the Serengeti region.

Expert Recommendation from Tanzania Safari Experience

Best Choice: Spend less time focusing on photography equipment and more time observing animal behavior.

Common Mistake: Expecting the Great Migration to appear in every area of Serengeti year round.

Better Alternative: Focus on overall wildlife density rather than only searching for migration herds.

DAY 4

Ngorongoro Conservation Area (incl. Crater)

The safari continues toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, home to one of Africa’s most famous wildlife destinations.

Descending into the crater reveals a unique ecosystem where animals live within the crater floor throughout the year. The concentration of wildlife is among the highest in Tanzania.

Guests may encounter lions, elephants, buffaloes, hyenas, zebras, wildebeests, and numerous bird species. Ngorongoro also provides one of the better opportunities to see black rhinos, although sightings are never guaranteed.

Travelers often underestimate how different the crater environment feels compared to Serengeti. Wildlife is generally easier to locate due to the natural boundaries created by the crater walls.

DAY 5

Drive back to Arusha - end of safari

The final day begins after breakfast before departing for Arusha. Depending on logistics, there may be opportunities for additional scenic stops along the route.

The drive provides time to reflect on the variety of experiences encountered throughout the safari, from Tarangire’s elephants to Serengeti’s open plains and Ngorongoro’s wildlife rich crater.

Many guests are surprised by how much wildlife diversity can be experienced within five days. The itinerary is carefully structured to maximize viewing opportunities while remaining practical for travelers with limited time.

Arrival in Arusha marks the end of the safari.

    Safari May 2026

This company exceeded everything we’d hoped for. From the start, the tour operator had everything covered — a detailed itinerary laid out well in advance, quick responses to any questions, and a genuine attentiveness that made the whole thing feel effortless. The accommodation was seriously impressive. Not what I was expecting at all — comfortable, well-appointed, and luxurious. We also spent time right in the heart of the bush. A proper treat. The two people who really made this trip were our guide Mariki and photographer Agnes. Mariki’s knowledge of the bush and animal behaviour is something else — he always seemed to know exactly where to go, and his instincts paid off every single time. Agnes has a brilliant eye and captured shots we could never have got ourselves. As for the wildlife — we saw far more than we ever imagined we would. Elephants, lions, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, hippos — the lot. As a first safari, I couldn’t have asked for more. Would recommend without hesitation.

Great Experience with Tanzania Safari Experience

We had an amazing safari with Tanzania Safari Experience, and honestly the whole trip was put together really well by Laurent and his team. From our first message to the last day, they were easy to reach, quick to reply, and clear about everything. The plan made sense, the timing was smooth, and we didn’t have to stress about anything. Uncle J was a big part of what made it special. He knows the parks incredibly well and seems to notice things before anyone else. He’d position the vehicle perfectly for photos and often got us to sightings before the crowds built up. We were lucky to see [your highlights: migration / lions / cheetahs / elephants / a crossing], and every drive felt exciting and different. The vehicle was comfortable and in good shape, and everything ran on schedule. If you’re looking for a well-organized safari with a great guide, I’d definitely recommend Tanzania Safari Experience.

An absolutely brilliant tour / travel company

What can I say. How do you explain PERFECTION. I will try. From the outset of our trip Ramadhan and Laurent were excellent. We gave them our requirements and budget and they prepared a program that was outstanding. The whole safari went like clockwork. We were met and briefed by Ramadhan on our arrival and introduced to our driver and guide extraordinar Ngoi. We visited Tarangier, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and the Ngorongoro Crater and Zanzibar. Absolutely brilliant trip, we saw the most extraordinary game. All the accommodation arranged for us was magnificent, especially the tented camps, where we were visited by a lion and elephant, scary but exhilarating. So if you are looking for an unforgettable experience look no further than Laurent and Ramadhan from Tanzania Safari Experience. They truly put clients first and foremost and deliver on their promises. Cheers from a very satisfied Chris and Terri Harvey

Everything You Need to Know About Your Safari

Every safari adventure begins with a question. Whether it’s your first or second time, it’s natural to wonder about the best time to visit, what to pack, or how the journey works. Here, we’ve answered the most common questions travelers ask before booking their Tanzania safari, so you can plan with confidence and look forward to unforgettable memories.

A 5 Day Tanzania Group Safari is priced at $210 per person per day for the camping option. This rate covers shared transport, professional safari guide services, park entry fees, meals during the safari, and camping accommodation throughout the itinerary.

Over the full 5 days, the total comes to $1,050 per person. This makes it one of the most cost effective ways to explore Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro while still experiencing full game drives and quality wildlife viewing.

In our experience at Tanzania Safari Experience, this pricing works best for travelers who prioritize wildlife and route coverage over luxury lodging. Lodge upgrades are available at an additional cost for those who want more comfort after long safari days.
