2 Days Shared Camping with Kilimanjaro Day Trip
2 Days Tarangire and Ngorongoro Group Camping Safari
The lure of the Tanzanian wild is often associated with weeks of travel, but for those with limited time, a concentrated burst of adventure can be even more transformative. We have designed this specific 3-day circuit to bridge the gap between the legendary baobabs of Tarangire, the prehistoric caldera of Ngorongoro, and the foothills of the highest free-standing mountain on earth.
At Tanzania Safari Experience, we specialize in these high-impact, short-duration journeys. Our team understands that every hour counts when you are trying to balance the majesty of the “Big Five” with the physical challenge of Mount Kilimanjaro. This itinerary is built on real-world logistics, ensuring you spend less time in transit and more time behind binoculars or on the trail.
The Concept: 2 Days Shared Camping with a Kilimanjaro Day Hike
Direct Insight: This 3-day experience combines a shared budget safari through Tarangire and Ngorongoro with a private Kilimanjaro day hike, offering a diverse taste of Tanzania’s landscapes without the long-term commitment.

Day-by-Day Itinerary 2 Days Shared Camping with Kilimanjaro Day Trip
Your safari is carefully planned to maximize wildlife viewing while still giving you time to relax and enjoy the journey. Here’s what you can expect day by day.
Day 1: The Land of Giants – Tarangire National Park
The journey begins in Arusha, where we depart for Tarangire, a park often overshadowed by the Serengeti but beloved by locals for its raw, rugged beauty.
Local Expert Perspective: Tarangire is defined by its ancient Baobab trees and the largest elephant concentration in East Africa. By mid-afternoon, the Tarangire River becomes a literal lifeline, drawing thousands of animals to its banks.
Morning and Afternoon: The Great Elephant Migration
We enter the gates and immediately head toward the river circuits. Unlike the vast open plains of other parks, Tarangire offers a “wooded” safari experience. You will find yourself looking upward at leopards lounging in sausage trees and across the scrubland at herds of elephants that can number in the hundreds.
Pro-Tip: Ask your guide to head toward the Silale Swamp. While many day-trippers stick to the main gate loops, the swamp is a magnet for predators and buffalo, offering much better “Information Gain” for your photo gallery.
Evening: Transition to Mto wa Mbu
As the sun dips behind the Rift Valley escarpment, we exit the park and drive to the vibrant village of Mto wa Mbu. This is a cultural crossroads where over 120 tribes coexist. You will spend the night at Fanaka Lodge, a comfortable budget-friendly base that offers the perfect mix of greenery and essential amenities.

About Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park is one of Tanzania’s most scenic wildlife destinations, famous for its large elephant herds and ancient baobab trees. The park offers excellent game viewing year-round, with diverse landscapes and rich wildlife, making it a perfect addition to any safari with Tanzania Safari Experience.
Day 2: Into the Lost World – Ngorongoro Crater
After an early breakfast at Fanaka, we ascend the steep walls of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The view from the rim is a spiritual experience—a 600-meter drop into a self-contained ecosystem.
The Crater Floor Experience: The Ngorongoro Crater is a natural enclosure where wildlife density is at its peak. It is arguably the best place in Tanzania to spot the endangered Black Rhino in a single day.
The Game Drive
Once on the crater floor, the scenery shifts to short-grass plains and alkaline lakes. We spend the morning tracking lions (which are exceptionally relaxed around vehicles here) and observing the “Great Five.” The Lerai Forest within the crater provides a stark contrast, offering shade for hippos and majestic bull elephants with tusks that nearly touch the ground.
Comparison: Tarangire vs. Ngorongoro
Tarangire: Famous for elephants and Baobabs; less crowded; wilder feel.
Ngorongoro: Guaranteed high wildlife density; higher chance of seeing Rhinos; more vehicle traffic.
Return to Arusha
After a picnic lunch by the hippo pool, we begin the climb back out of the caldera and head toward Arusha. Tonight, we settle into the Arusha Tourist Inn. This stay is strategic; it places you in the heart of the city, allowing for a quick departure the following morning toward the mountain.
Day Highlights:
- Game Drive in Ngorongoro Highlands
- Game Drive in Ngorongoro Crater

About Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater is a विशाल volcanic caldera in northern Tanzania, often called Africa’s “Garden of Eden” for its rich wildlife and stunning landscapes. Formed millions of years ago, it shelters an incredible concentration of animals, including the Big Five, within its lush floor of grasslands, forests, and a soda lake. With its natural enclosure and breathtaking views from the rim, it offers one of the most unique and reliable safari experiences in Africa.
Day 3: The Roof of Africa – Kilimanjaro Day Hike
The final day shifts from the 4×4 vehicle to your own two feet. We depart Arusha early for the Marangu Gate, the gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro.
The Day Hike Reality: You won’t reach the summit today, but you will experience the “Cloud Forest.” This hike takes you from the park gate (1,860m) to Mandara Hut (2,700m).
The Ascent through the Rainforest
The trail is well-maintained and winds through a lush, emerald-green rainforest. Keep your ears open for the distinct “woofing” sound of the Black and White Colobus monkeys. The air is cool, crisp, and heavy with the scent of damp earth and exotic flowers.
Reaching Mandara Hut and Maundi Crater
After approximately 3 to 4 hours of steady trekking, we reach the Mandara Huts.
The Highlight: We take a short 15-minute detour to the Maundi Crater. On a clear day, the canopy opens up to reveal staggering views of the Kibo summit and, looking south, the plains of Northern Tanzania and Lake Jipe.
This is the perfect conclusion to your trip—standing on the slopes of the world’s highest free-standing mountain before descending back to the gate for your transfer back to Arusha.
Day Highlights:
- Transfer to Arusha to Mount Kilimanjaro
- Day Hike on Mount Kilimanjaro

EXCELLENT Based on 2 reviews Posted on Godson GVerified Great Experience with Tanzania Safari Experience We had an amazing safari with Tanzania Safari Experience, and honestly the whole trip was put together really well by Laurent and his team. From our first message to the last day, they were easy to reach, quick to reply, and clear about everything. The plan made sense, the timing was smooth, and we didn’t have to stress about anything.Uncle J was a big part of what made it special. He knows the parks incredibly well and seems to notice things before anyone else. He’d position the vehicle perfectly for photos and often got us to sightings before the crowds built up. We were lucky to see [your highlights: migration / lions / cheetahs / elephants / a crossing], and every drive felt exciting and different. The vehicle was comfortable and in good shape, and everything ran on schedule. If you’re looking for a well-organized safari with a great guide, I’d definitely recommend Tanzania Safari Experience.Posted on Chris HVerified An absolutely brilliant tour / travel company What can I say. How do you explain PERFECTION. I will try. From the outset of our trip Ramadhan and Laurent were excellent. We gave them our requirements and budget and they prepared a program that was outstanding. The whole safari went like clockwork. We were met and briefed by Ramadhan on our arrival and introduced to our driver and guide extraordinar Ngoi. We visited Tarangier, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and the Ngorongoro Crater and Zanzibar. Absolutely brilliant trip, we saw the most extraordinary game. All the accommodation arranged for us was magnificent, especially the tented camps, where we were visited by a lion and elephant, scary but exhilarating. So if you are looking for an unforgettable experience look no further than Laurent and Ramadhan from Tanzania Safari Experience. They truly put clients first and foremost and deliver on their promises.Cheers from a very satisfied Chris and Terri HarveyVerified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
