7 Days Tanzania Safari Experience: Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire

A 7 Days Tanzania Safari Experience is ideal for travelers who want to visit Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara without turning every day into a long transfer.

This private safari suits couples, families, friends, and small groups who want a balanced northern Tanzania route with five active safari days, comfortable overnight stops, airport transfers, and enough time in the Serengeti to explore beyond the main roads.

The main advantage is variety. You experience Tarangire’s elephants and baobab trees, the open plains of Central Serengeti, the concentrated wildlife inside Ngorongoro Crater, and the forest, lake, and treetop walkway at Lake Manyara.

What travelers sometimes misunderstand is that seven days does not mean seven full game drive days. The first and final days are used for airport transfers, while the five days in between form the main safari. In our experience at Tanzania Safari Experience, this is a sensible pace for first time visitors who want a complete northern circuit without extending beyond one week.

High demand: This safari books 4–8 weeks ahead during peak season (June–October).

Day-by-Day Itinerary 7 Days Tanzania Safari Experience — Tanzania Safari

Your safari is carefully planned to maximize wildlife viewing while still giving you time to relax and enjoy the journey. Here’s what you can expect day by day.

DAY 1

Kilimanjaro Airport to Arusha

Your safari begins when our representative meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport. After collecting your luggage, you will travel by private vehicle to Arusha.

The drive usually takes around one to one and a half hours, depending on traffic and your arrival time. Along the way, you may see local towns, farms, Mount Meru in clear weather, and daily life around northern Tanzania.

This first day is kept relaxed because many guests arrive after a long international journey. There are no safari activities planned, giving you enough time to rest, shower, organize your luggage, and prepare for the days ahead.

You will have dinner and stay overnight at Tulia Boutique Hotel and Spa or similar accommodation on a full board basis.

DAY 2

Arusha to Tarangire National Park and Karatu

After breakfast, you will meet your professional safari guide and leave Arusha for Tarangire National Park. The drive usually takes around two to three hours, depending on traffic and the park entrance used.

Tarangire is known for large elephant herds, old baobab trees, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes, and many antelope species. Lions are also regularly seen, especially near rivers, open plains, and areas where animals gather to drink.

You will spend several hours on a game drive with a picnic lunch inside the park. Your guide will adjust the route according to wildlife movement, recent sightings, and road conditions rather than following one fixed track.

Later in the afternoon, you will leave Tarangire and continue to Karatu. The drive normally takes around two hours. Karatu has a cooler climate than Tarangire, so a light jacket can be useful in the evening.

You will have dinner and stay overnight at Eileens Trees Inn or similar accommodation on a full board basis.

DAY 3

Karatu to Central Serengeti

After breakfast, you will leave Karatu and travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward Central Serengeti. This is one of the longer driving days, but the changing landscapes make the journey part of the safari.

The drive may take around five to six hours before wildlife stops are added. You will pass highland farms, the Ngorongoro forest, Maasai grazing areas, and wide plains before entering Serengeti National Park.

Once inside the Serengeti, the transfer becomes a game drive. Central Serengeti offers strong wildlife viewing throughout the year, with good chances of seeing lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, cheetahs, and many plains animals.

Your guide may stop at productive wildlife areas along the way, so arrival time at camp can vary. This flexibility is important because good sightings should not be rushed simply to reach the accommodation early.

You will have dinner and stay overnight at Tukaone Serengeti Camp or similar accommodation on a full board basis.

DAY 4

Full Day Central Serengeti Game Drive

Today is dedicated to exploring Central Serengeti. You may leave after an early breakfast or start slightly later, depending on wildlife activity and the preferences of your group.

Central Serengeti has open grassland, rocky kopjes, river valleys, and woodland. These different habitats attract lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, giraffes, hyenas, and many antelope species.

Your guide will use recent sightings, animal tracks, weather, and information from other professional guides to choose the best areas. Wildlife moves constantly, so the route may change during the day.

You may carry a packed lunch and remain in the park or return to camp for lunch if your group prefers a break. Staying out for the full day gives you more coverage, while returning to camp can make the day more comfortable for children or older travelers.

In the late afternoon, you will return to Tukaone Serengeti Camp or similar accommodation for dinner and overnight on a full board basis.

DAY 5

Central Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater and Karatu

You will leave Central Serengeti early and travel toward Ngorongoro. Wildlife viewing continues during the first part of the journey, especially while crossing the Serengeti plains.

After reaching Ngorongoro, you will descend into the crater for a game drive. The crater contains grassland, forest, wetlands, and a permanent lake within a relatively compact area.

You may see lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas, jackals, and many bird species. Ngorongoro is also one of the better places in northern Tanzania to look for black rhinos, although sightings are never guaranteed.

You will stop for a picnic lunch inside the crater and continue exploring before ascending the crater wall. This is a long and active day, so an early departure from the Serengeti is important.

After the game drive, you will continue to Karatu for dinner and overnight at Eileens Trees Inn or similar accommodation on a full board basis.

DAY 6

Lake Manyara Game Drive and Treetop Walkway

After breakfast, you will travel from Karatu to Lake Manyara National Park. The drive usually takes around forty five minutes to one hour.

Lake Manyara offers a different environment from Tarangire and Serengeti. The park includes groundwater forest, open grassland, woodland, marshes, and views of the Rift Valley escarpment.

Wildlife may include elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, baboons, blue monkeys, hippos, antelopes, and many bird species. Lion sightings are possible, but they should never be treated as guaranteed.

You will also take part in the Lake Manyara treetop walkway. This activity allows you to walk across suspended platforms through the forest canopy and gives you a different view of the surrounding vegetation.

After the game drive and walkway experience, you will travel back to Arusha. You will have dinner and stay overnight at Tulia Boutique Hotel and Spa or similar accommodation on a full board basis.

DAY 7

Arusha to Kilimanjaro Airport

Your final day is planned around your flight departure time. The drive from Arusha to Kilimanjaro International Airport usually takes around one to one and a half hours, depending on traffic.

Your pickup time will be arranged carefully so you arrive at the airport with enough time for check in, immigration, security, and possible queues.

When your flight departs late in the evening, you can add an optional activity before going to the airport. Depending on the time available, you may choose horseback riding, a visit to Napuru Waterfalls, or a trip to Materuni Waterfalls near Moshi.

Napuru is usually the easier option when you have limited time because it is closer to Arusha. Materuni requires more time and is best for guests with a very late flight because the journey, waterfall walk, and airport transfer must all be planned carefully.

These activities are optional and can be arranged at an additional cost, subject to availability, weather, and your confirmed flight schedule.

No accommodation is included on the final day.

    Great Tanzanian vacation

We toured with Tanzania Safari Experience for an eight day trip to Tanzania. Five days of safari and then three days of beach vacation in Zanzibar. They were great to work with and customized everything exactly the way we wanted it. The lodges we were booked in were all incredible, particularly the Lahia Tented Lodge in the Serengeti. Our driver, Jay, seemed to know every road in every national park and as a result the wildlife viewing was unparalleled. There were times where we were the only vehicle seeing lions or hippos. The owner, Laurent, was extremely responsive and any issues we had in-country with our logistics were immediately sorted by him. He genuinely wanted us to have a first-rate experience. The only thing we were unprepared for is that some of the days in the safari vehicle were very long (10+ hours) and the roads can be really rough. But there were plenty of cold drinks in the car and it was worth it to see the wildlife. The safari/beach split was a great way to do the vacation and the beaches of Zanzibar were beautiful with clear blue water.

    Safari May 2026

This company exceeded everything we’d hoped for. From the start, the tour operator had everything covered — a detailed itinerary laid out well in advance, quick responses to any questions, and a genuine attentiveness that made the whole thing feel effortless. The accommodation was seriously impressive. Not what I was expecting at all — comfortable, well-appointed, and luxurious. We also spent time right in the heart of the bush. A proper treat. The two people who really made this trip were our guide Mariki and photographer Agnes. Mariki’s knowledge of the bush and animal behaviour is something else — he always seemed to know exactly where to go, and his instincts paid off every single time. Agnes has a brilliant eye and captured shots we could never have got ourselves. As for the wildlife — we saw far more than we ever imagined we would. Elephants, lions, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, hippos — the lot. As a first safari, I couldn’t have asked for more. Would recommend without hesitation.

Great Experience with Tanzania Safari Experience

We had an amazing safari with Tanzania Safari Experience, and honestly the whole trip was put together really well by Laurent and his team. From our first message to the last day, they were easy to reach, quick to reply, and clear about everything. The plan made sense, the timing was smooth, and we didn’t have to stress about anything. Uncle J was a big part of what made it special. He knows the parks incredibly well and seems to notice things before anyone else. He’d position the vehicle perfectly for photos and often got us to sightings before the crowds built up. We were lucky to see [your highlights: migration / lions / cheetahs / elephants / a crossing], and every drive felt exciting and different. The vehicle was comfortable and in good shape, and everything ran on schedule. If you’re looking for a well-organized safari with a great guide, I’d definitely recommend Tanzania Safari Experience.

Everything You Need to Know About Your Safari

Planning a Tanzania safari often comes with important questions, from choosing the right travel season to understanding what to pack, where to stay, and what to expect each day. We have answered the questions travelers ask most often before booking, helping you prepare properly and plan your safari with confidence.

This itinerary is best for travelers who want the main northern Tanzania parks within one week and accept that some days involve long road travel. It is not the right choice for guests seeking a slow safari with several free afternoons or extended wildlife photography sessions in only one ecosystem.

Couples and groups of friends benefit from the private vehicle because the day can be adjusted around their interests. Families also benefit from private travel because children can take breaks without affecting unrelated guests.

Serious photographers may prefer adding one or two extra Serengeti nights. More time allows slower observation, better use of morning and evening light, and less pressure to leave a productive sighting.

Travelers who dislike rough roads should consider flying into or out of the Serengeti. A flight reduces driving time, although it increases the cost and may require stricter luggage limits.
