Home / Accommodation / Eileen’s Trees Inn

Eileen’s Trees Inn is a peaceful, welcoming accommodation located on the edge of Karatu town, serving as a highly strategic and comfortable base for travelers exploring Tanzania’s Northern Circuit. Nestled into lush, beautifully landscaped tropical gardens, it is a favorite for visitors who want a calm place to relax before or after their safari—especially those heading to the Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, or Tarangire National Park.

While many safari lodges focus on high-end luxury, Eileen’s Trees Inn carves out its own distinct identity: it is a mid-range, owner-operated lodge managed by highly experienced Tanzanian hospitality professionals. The result is an environment that feels authentic, comfortable, and grounded, offering exceptional value for travelers who prioritize clean rooms, warm hospitality, and a relaxing countryside atmosphere over unnecessary extravagance.

The Location Advantage: Gateway to the Highlands

One of the strongest reasons to book Eileen’s Trees Inn is its unbeatable logistical placement. Situated just a stone’s throw from the Loduare Main Gate of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, staying here makes early morning descents into the Ngorongoro Crater seamless.

Because the most active game viewing occurs in the cooler morning hours, minimizing your drive time to the gate is a massive advantage. Beyond Ngorongoro, the lodge sits roughly 2.5 hours from Arusha, making it a natural mid-point on itineraries connecting Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara with the wider Serengeti ecosystem. You can easily stay here for two or three nights and use it as a central hub for multiple parks without needing to constantly unpack and repack.

The Atmosphere: A Tropical Treehouse Vibe

From the moment you arrive, the lodge’s design invites you to slow down. Eileen’s Trees Inn is set across expansive grounds filled with flowering tropical plants, towering acacia trees, and vibrant local birdlife.

The main communal areas—including the lounge, bar, and dining room—are elevated on wood and concrete platforms, giving them the fun, rustic feeling of a traditional treehouse. Open-air seating areas allow the gentle evening breezes of the crater highlands to flow through, creating an atmosphere that feels entirely detached from the dust and bumps of the safari roads.

Instead of a standard, commercialized gift shop, the lodge invites local women basket weavers to display their handcrafted wares on the grounds, adding a touch of community connection and authentic Tanzanian culture to your stay.

Rooms and Comfort

The lodge features 20 spacious, cottage-style rooms privately distributed throughout the gardens, ensuring every guest enjoys a quiet environment. The room configurations are highly adaptable, making the lodge an excellent choice for solo travelers, couples, and larger groups alike:

  • Configurations: Options include single, double (featuring large queen-size beds), twin, and triple rooms. A dedicated family room is also available upon request.

  • Comfort and Privacy: Every room is equipped with comfortable beds securely draped in mosquito nets. The interiors reflect a simple, clean African charm without feeling overly cluttered.

  • Amenities: You will find a writing desk and a private veranda with seating—perfect for reading or birdwatching in the early evening.

  • Bathrooms: The en-suite bathrooms feature large showers with reliable, on-demand hot water, which is a highly sought-after comfort after a long, dusty game drive.

  • Water Safety: The lodge utilizes its own deep, pure well for its water supply, and complimentary bottled drinking water is provided in every room to ensure a healthy stay.

Dining and Lodge Facilities

Food and relaxation are central to the Eileen’s Trees Inn experience. Because the lodge is situated in the fertile, agricultural region of the Ngorongoro Highlands, the talented culinary team sources their ingredients locally to create fresh, nutritious meals.

  • The Menu: Breakfasts are hearty and reliable, featuring fresh fruits, cereals, breads, and eggs cooked to order—essential fuel for a long day in the bush. Lunches and dinners are typically served buffet-style, offering a warming selection of soups, fresh salads, rice, potatoes, and carefully prepared meat or chicken dishes, followed by homemade desserts. The kitchen is highly responsive to dietary requirements (including vegan or vegetarian needs) when notified in advance.

  • The Pool Deck: The center of relaxation during the warmer afternoon hours is the lodge’s swimming pool, surrounded by a large sun deck with loungers and shaded tables.

  • Evening Campfires: As the sun sets and the highland air cools, guests often gather around the outdoor campfire to share stories from the day’s game drives before heading to the dining room.

  • Connectivity: Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in the common areas, allowing you to catch up on emails or share wildlife photos with friends and family.

Who Should Stay Here?

Eileen’s Trees Inn is not trying to be a sprawling, opulent resort. Instead, it succeeds brilliantly at being a warm, highly efficient, and deeply relaxing mid-range lodge.

It is the ideal choice for travelers who value smart logistics, genuine Tanzanian hospitality, and a peaceful garden setting. By providing comfortable beds, excellent hot showers, delicious locally sourced food, and a quiet natural environment, it delivers exactly what a traveler needs to recharge before embarking on their next great African adventure.

    Great Tanzanian vacation

We toured with Tanzania Safari Experience for an eight day trip to Tanzania. Five days of safari and then three days of beach vacation in Zanzibar. They were great to work with and customized everything exactly the way we wanted it. The lodges we were booked in were all incredible, particularly the Lahia Tented Lodge in the Serengeti. Our driver, Jay, seemed to know every road in every national park and as a result the wildlife viewing was unparalleled. There were times where we were the only vehicle seeing lions or hippos. The owner, Laurent, was extremely responsive and any issues we had in-country with our logistics were immediately sorted by him. He genuinely wanted us to have a first-rate experience. The only thing we were unprepared for is that some of the days in the safari vehicle were very long (10+ hours) and the roads can be really rough. But there were plenty of cold drinks in the car and it was worth it to see the wildlife. The safari/beach split was a great way to do the vacation and the beaches of Zanzibar were beautiful with clear blue water.

    Safari May 2026

This company exceeded everything we’d hoped for. From the start, the tour operator had everything covered — a detailed itinerary laid out well in advance, quick responses to any questions, and a genuine attentiveness that made the whole thing feel effortless. The accommodation was seriously impressive. Not what I was expecting at all — comfortable, well-appointed, and luxurious. We also spent time right in the heart of the bush. A proper treat. The two people who really made this trip were our guide Mariki and photographer Agnes. Mariki’s knowledge of the bush and animal behaviour is something else — he always seemed to know exactly where to go, and his instincts paid off every single time. Agnes has a brilliant eye and captured shots we could never have got ourselves. As for the wildlife — we saw far more than we ever imagined we would. Elephants, lions, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, hippos — the lot. As a first safari, I couldn’t have asked for more. Would recommend without hesitation.

Great Experience with Tanzania Safari Experience

We had an amazing safari with Tanzania Safari Experience, and honestly the whole trip was put together really well by Laurent and his team. From our first message to the last day, they were easy to reach, quick to reply, and clear about everything. The plan made sense, the timing was smooth, and we didn’t have to stress about anything. Uncle J was a big part of what made it special. He knows the parks incredibly well and seems to notice things before anyone else. He’d position the vehicle perfectly for photos and often got us to sightings before the crowds built up. We were lucky to see [your highlights: migration / lions / cheetahs / elephants / a crossing], and every drive felt exciting and different. The vehicle was comfortable and in good shape, and everything ran on schedule. If you’re looking for a well-organized safari with a great guide, I’d definitely recommend Tanzania Safari Experience.
