5 Days Tanzania Safari for Girls: A Women-Only Safari Adventure in Tanzania

A 5 days Tanzania safari for girls is a women-only safari designed for friends, sisters, solo female travelers, and women’s groups who want to experience Tanzania’s wildlife together in a comfortable, supportive, and safe environment. With Tanzania Safari Experience, your journey is led by knowledgeable professionals, and if requested, even your safari guide can be female, creating an experience that many women find both relaxing and inspiring.

This safari is perfect for a girls’ getaway that combines adventure, meaningful conversations around the campfire, unforgettable wildlife encounters, and quality time away from busy daily routines. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, graduation, honeymoon with your closest friends, or simply planning your next adventure together, this itinerary offers an excellent balance of game drives and comfortable accommodations.

Many travelers assume a women-only safari is very different from a traditional safari. In reality, the wildlife experience remains exactly the same. The difference is in the atmosphere. Traveling with like-minded women creates a relaxed environment where everyone can enjoy the journey, take photos together, and share unforgettable moments without worrying about different travel expectations within mixed groups.

At Tanzania Safari Experience, we usually recommend keeping the group private whenever possible. It gives your group complete flexibility to stop for photography, spend longer watching wildlife, adjust game drive timings, and travel at a pace that suits everyone.

High demand: This safari books 4โ€“8 weeks ahead during peak season (Juneโ€“October).

Day-by-Day Itinerary 5 Days Tanzania Safari For Girls — Tanzania Safari

Your safari is carefully planned to maximize wildlife viewing while still giving you time to relax and enjoy the journey. Hereโ€™s what you can expect day by day.

DAY 1

Arusha to Tarangire National Park, then Karatu

Your adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Arusha. After meeting your guide and loading your luggage into your private 4×4 safari vehicle, you’ll begin the drive toward Tarangire National Park, approximately three hours away.

The drive itself introduces you to northern Tanzania. You’ll pass local villages, coffee farms, and open countryside before reaching the park entrance. This first morning is often filled with excitement as everyone eagerly watches for the first wild animals.

Tarangire National Park is best known for its impressive elephant population. It is common to see families of elephants crossing the road, feeding beneath giant baobab trees, or gathering near the Tarangire River. Alongside elephants, you may encounter giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, impalas, warthogs, and several species of antelope.

Predators are also present, although sightings depend on the season and a little luck. Lions are regularly seen, while leopards often remain hidden in the trees during the hottest hours of the day.

After enjoying a picnic lunch inside the park, your afternoon game drive continues through different habitats before leaving Tarangire and heading toward Karatu.

The drive to Karatu takes you through fertile farmland and the green highlands surrounding the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Compared with the dry landscapes of Tarangire, the scenery changes dramatically, offering a completely different side of Tanzania.

Your lodge in Karatu provides the perfect place to unwind after the first day. Enjoy a warm shower, a freshly prepared dinner, and time to relax with your friends while sharing your favorite wildlife moments from the day.

Drive Time

  • Arusha to Tarangire: approximately 3 hours
  • Tarangire to Karatu: approximately 2 hours

Wildlife Highlights

  • Large elephant herds
  • Giraffes
  • Zebras
  • Buffalo
  • Warthogs
  • Lions
  • More than 500 bird species

Best Choice

Wear neutral-colored clothing on your first game drive. Earth tones such as green, beige, and brown help you blend naturally into the environment and produce better photographs than bright colors.

DAY 2

Ngorongoro Highlands to Central Serengeti

Today is one of the most exciting days of the safari as your group travels toward the world-famous Serengeti National Park.

After breakfast, you’ll drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, climbing into the cool highlands before gradually descending onto the vast Serengeti plains.

Many guests expect this to be simply a transfer day, but that couldn’t be further from reality. Wildlife sightings begin long before you reach your accommodation, making today’s journey a full safari experience.

As the landscape opens into endless grasslands, you’ll quickly understand why the Serengeti is considered one of Africa’s greatest wildlife destinations. Zebras, gazelles, giraffes, elephants, and countless antelope are often visible from the road.

Depending on the season, your first Serengeti game drive may include large herds of wildebeest moving across the plains as part of the Great Migration. During other months, you’ll still enjoy excellent resident wildlife that remains in the park throughout the year.

Your guide will begin searching for predators soon after entering the park. Lions are commonly found resting beneath acacia trees or watching nearby herds, while cheetahs prefer the open plains where they can spot prey from long distances.

You’ll arrive at Friends Serengeti Camp later in the afternoon.

One of the highlights of staying inside the Serengeti is that the safari never really stops. Even from camp, you may hear lions roaring in the distance, hyenas calling after sunset, or see wildlife moving across the surrounding plains.

After dinner, relax around the camp before settling into your comfortable tent for the night.

Drive Time

  • Karatu to Central Serengeti: approximately 5โ€“6 hours including game viewing

Wildlife Highlights

  • Lions
  • Cheetahs
  • Elephants
  • Giraffes
  • Zebras
  • Wildebeest
  • Hyenas
  • Topi
  • Grant’s gazelles

Recommended Accommodation

Friends Serengeti Camp (Full Board)

Located inside Serengeti National Park, Friends Camp offers spacious safari tents with comfortable beds, private bathrooms, hot showers, and excellent access to wildlife viewing areas.

What Many Travelers Don’t Realize

The drive into Serengeti is part of the safari itself. Keep your camera ready from the moment you leave the Ngorongoro highlands because wildlife sightings often begin long before reaching camp.

DAY 3

Full-Day Serengeti Safari Experience

A full day in Serengeti gives your group the freedom to explore one of Africa’s richest wildlife ecosystems without the need to travel between parks.

You’ll leave camp early in the morning while temperatures are still cool. This is typically the most active time of day, when predators are returning from night hunts and herbivores begin moving across the plains.

Early morning light also creates excellent photography conditions. The softer sunlight produces natural colors and fewer harsh shadows, making it ideal for both wildlife portraits and group photographs.

Throughout the day, your guide will adapt the route based on recent wildlife sightings shared by other professional guides across the park. This teamwork increases the chances of finding exciting animal activity while still allowing flexibility to explore quieter areas.

Lions are among the most commonly seen predators in Central Serengeti, but the area is also well known for cheetahs, leopards, serval cats, jackals, and spotted hyenas.

If you’re fortunate, you may witness dramatic predator-prey interactions. However, experienced safari travelers know that quieter momentsโ€”such as elephant families interacting, playful lion cubs, or giraffes browsing peacefullyโ€”are equally rewarding.

A picnic lunch is enjoyed at one of the designated picnic sites within the park, allowing everyone to take a break before continuing the afternoon game drive.

As the day cools toward evening, wildlife becomes more active once again. This is another excellent opportunity to observe predators preparing for the night while large herbivores move toward water sources.

You’ll return to Tukaone Serengeti Camp for dinner and another peaceful evening surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.

Expert Recommendation from Tanzania Safari Experience

Common Mistake

Many guests spend the entire day looking only for the Big Five.

Better Alternative

Take time to appreciate every part of the ecosystem. Watching elephants interact, hippos socializing in pools, colorful birds, or even a line of ants carrying leaves often creates memories just as meaningful as spotting a lion.

DAY 4

Morning Game Drive in Serengeti, then Travel Toward Ngorongoro

Today combines one last opportunity to explore the Serengeti with a scenic journey back toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It is an excellent day for enjoying wildlife at a relaxed pace while taking in the changing landscapes of northern Tanzania.

After an early breakfast, you’ll head out for a final morning game drive. Wildlife is often most active during the first few hours after sunrise, making this one of the best times to search for predators that may have been hunting overnight.

If there are any animals your group hasn’t seen yet, your guide will focus on areas where recent sightings have been reported. Every safari is different, so today’s route is adjusted based on wildlife movements rather than following the exact same tracks from previous days.

As you continue through Central Serengeti, you’ll have another chance to see lions resting after a hunt, elephants feeding on acacia trees, giraffes crossing the plains, and large herds of zebras and antelope. Depending on the season, migrating wildebeest may also be visible.

One thing many visitors notice on the return journey is how much they recognize the landscape. Places that felt completely new a few days ago now bring back memories of exciting wildlife sightings and shared moments with friends.

After your morning game drive, you’ll begin the drive toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The journey includes wildlife viewing along the way, so the safari continues even as you leave the Serengeti behind.

Arriving near Ngorongoro in the late afternoon allows you to rest before tomorrow’s early descent into the crater. Staying nearby is an important advantage because it reduces travel time and lets you reach the crater while wildlife is still highly active.

Drive Time

  • Serengeti to Ngorongoro Highlands: approximately 3 hours, excluding game-viewing stops.

Wildlife Highlights

  • Lions
  • Elephants
  • Giraffes
  • Zebras
  • Wildebeest
  • Hyenas
  • Ostriches
  • Secretary birds
  • Various antelope species

Best Choice

Keep your camera within easy reach throughout the drive back. Many travelers assume the return journey is simply transportation, but wildlife sightings often continue until you exit the park.

DAY 5

Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive, then Return to Arusha

Your final safari day begins early as you make your way to the Ngorongoro Crater gate before descending approximately 600 meters onto the crater floor.

The Ngorongoro Crater is one of Tanzania’s most remarkable wildlife areas because animals remain here throughout the year. The crater’s natural boundaries create an environment where wildlife is relatively easy to locate, making it one of the best places in Africa for game viewing.

As your guide explores different sections of the crater, you’ll have an excellent chance of seeing buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, elephants, and large groups of gazelles. Lions are regularly encountered, often resting in the open grasslands or watching nearby herds.

One of the highlights of Ngorongoro is the possibility of seeing the endangered black rhinoceros. While sightings cannot be guaranteed, the crater offers one of the best opportunities in Tanzania to observe this rare species in its natural habitat.

Bird enthusiasts will also enjoy the crater’s soda lake, where flamingos, crowned cranes, storks, pelicans, and many other species gather throughout the year.

After enjoying a picnic lunch inside the crater, you’ll continue your game drive before ascending back to the crater rim in the afternoon.

The journey back to Arusha provides time to reflect on the past five days, share favorite photographs, and relive memorable wildlife encounters. By the time you arrive, many groups are already talking about returning to Tanzania to explore another region together.

Drive Time

  • Lodge to Ngorongoro Crater: approximately 30โ€“45 minutes
  • Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha: approximately 3.5 to 4 hours

Wildlife Highlights

  • Black rhinoceros
  • Lions
  • Buffalo
  • Hippos
  • Elephants
  • Hyenas
  • Flamingos
  • Zebras
  • Wildebeest

Expert Recommendation from Tanzania Safari Experience

What Works Best for Most Guests

Avoid treating Ngorongoro as simply the last stop before going home. The crater often delivers some of the best wildlife sightings of the entire safari, so stay fully engaged from the moment you descend until the final game drive ends.

    Safari May 2026

This company exceeded everything weโ€™d hoped for. From the start, the tour operator had everything covered โ€” a detailed itinerary laid out well in advance, quick responses to any questions, and a genuine attentiveness that made the whole thing feel effortless. The accommodation was seriously impressive. Not what I was expecting at all โ€” comfortable, well-appointed, and luxurious. We also spent time right in the heart of the bush. A proper treat. The two people who really made this trip were our guide Mariki and photographer Agnes. Marikiโ€™s knowledge of the bush and animal behaviour is something else โ€” he always seemed to know exactly where to go, and his instincts paid off every single time. Agnes has a brilliant eye and captured shots we could never have got ourselves. As for the wildlife โ€” we saw far more than we ever imagined we would. Elephants, lions, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, hippos โ€” the lot. As a first safari, I couldnโ€™t have asked for more. Would recommend without hesitation.

Great Experience with Tanzania Safari Experience

We had an amazing safari with Tanzania Safari Experience, and honestly the whole trip was put together really well by Laurent and his team. From our first message to the last day, they were easy to reach, quick to reply, and clear about everything. The plan made sense, the timing was smooth, and we didnโ€™t have to stress about anything. Uncle J was a big part of what made it special. He knows the parks incredibly well and seems to notice things before anyone else. Heโ€™d position the vehicle perfectly for photos and often got us to sightings before the crowds built up. We were lucky to see [your highlights: migration / lions / cheetahs / elephants / a crossing], and every drive felt exciting and different. The vehicle was comfortable and in good shape, and everything ran on schedule. If youโ€™re looking for a well-organized safari with a great guide, Iโ€™d definitely recommend Tanzania Safari Experience.

An absolutely brilliant tour / travel company

What can I say. How do you explain PERFECTION. I will try. From the outset of our trip Ramadhan and Laurent were excellent. We gave them our requirements and budget and they prepared a program that was outstanding. The whole safari went like clockwork. We were met and briefed by Ramadhan on our arrival and introduced to our driver and guide extraordinar Ngoi. We visited Tarangier, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and the Ngorongoro Crater and Zanzibar. Absolutely brilliant trip, we saw the most extraordinary game. All the accommodation arranged for us was magnificent, especially the tented camps, where we were visited by a lion and elephant, scary but exhilarating. So if you are looking for an unforgettable experience look no further than Laurent and Ramadhan from Tanzania Safari Experience. They truly put clients first and foremost and deliver on their promises. Cheers from a very satisfied Chris and Terri Harvey
