Trip Overview

A safari in Serengeti does not have to mean long road journeys across Tanzania. One of the fastest and most rewarding ways to experience Africa’s most famous wildlife destination is by flying directly from Zanzibar to Serengeti.

At Tanzania Safari Experience, we regularly organize this route for travelers who want to combine Zanzibar’s beaches with world-class wildlife viewing. In just three days, you can leave the Indian Ocean behind, fly over Tanzania’s vast landscapes, watch lions, elephants, giraffes, and possibly the Great Migration, then return to Zanzibar with memories that last a lifetime.

The biggest surprise for many travelers is how quickly the scenery changes. In the morning, you can be walking along a white sandy beach in Zanzibar, and a few hours later you are watching a pride of lions resting under an acacia tree in Serengeti.

Quick Direct Guide

A 3 Days Serengeti Safari From Zanzibar is a fly-in safari that allows travelers to maximize wildlife viewing while minimizing travel time. You fly directly from Zanzibar to Serengeti, enjoy game drives for three days, and return to Zanzibar on the final day.

Our Local Experience and Honest Opinion

In our experience, this is one of the best short safaris available in Tanzania because nearly every hour is spent enjoying wildlife rather than traveling.

At Tanzania Safari Experience, we often meet guests who initially think three days is too short for Serengeti.

After completing the safari, many tell us they saw far more wildlife than expected.

The reason is simple.

Flying directly from Zanzibar to Serengeti gives you an immediate advantage.

When you land at Seronera Airstrip, you are already inside the heart of Central Serengeti. Your safari begins the moment you arrive.

In fact, we often tell guests that by flying directly into Serengeti, you already have about 30% of the safari experience before the first game drive even starts. The aerial views of rivers, kopjes, open plains, wildlife corridors, and endless grasslands provide a completely different perspective of Tanzania.

What many travelers underestimate is how exciting that first flight can be. Looking down from the aircraft and seeing the vast Serengeti landscape stretching to the horizon creates anticipation long before the first lion sighting.

If I were planning this trip for my own family, I would absolutely choose the fly-in option over a short road safari.

Day-by-Day Itinerary 3 Days Serengeti Safari From Zanzibar — Tanzania Safari

Your safari is carefully planned to maximize wildlife viewing while still giving you time to relax and enjoy the journey. Here’s what you can expect day by day.

DAY 1

Zanzibar to Serengeti and First Game Drive

Your journey begins with a morning flight from Zanzibar directly into Central Serengeti. As you fly over Tanzania, the scenery slowly shifts from coastline to endless savannah. When you land at Seronera Airstrip, your guide from Tanzania Safari Experience will be waiting to welcome you. From here, the safari starts immediately with a game drive. Within the first hours, you may already spot elephants, giraffes, zebras, and lions moving across the plains. This is the moment many travelers realize that flying directly into Serengeti already gives them a strong head start into the safari experience.

DAY 2

Full Day Safari in Central Serengeti

Today is fully dedicated to exploring Serengeti without rushing. You leave early in the morning when the park is calm and wildlife is most active. Lions may still be finishing a night hunt, elephants move slowly through the grasslands, and cheetahs scan the open plains for prey. Your guide adjusts the route based on real-time wildlife movement, giving you the best possible chance to see a variety of animals throughout the day. A picnic lunch inside the park keeps you close to the action, and the afternoon continues with more game drives across different habitats before returning to your lodge in the evening.

DAY 3

Morning Game Drive and Return to Zanzibar

The final morning begins with one last game drive in Serengeti, a time when the light is soft and animals are still active. It is often a rewarding moment for photography and quiet wildlife viewing. After breakfast, you make your way back to Seronera Airstrip for your flight back to Zanzibar. As the plane lifts off, you leave behind the vast plains of Serengeti and return to the island, carrying with you a full collection of wildlife encounters, landscapes, and moments that feel far bigger than the short time spent on safari.

Safari May 2026

This company exceeded everything we’d hoped for. From the start, the tour operator had everything covered — a detailed itinerary laid out well in advance, quick responses to any questions, and a genuine attentiveness that made the whole thing feel effortless. The accommodation was seriously impressive. Not what I was expecting at all — comfortable, well-appointed, and luxurious. We also spent time right in the heart of the bush. A proper treat. The two people who really made this trip were our guide Mariki and photographer Agnes. Mariki’s knowledge of the bush and animal behaviour is something else — he always seemed to know exactly where to go, and his instincts paid off every single time. Agnes has a brilliant eye and captured shots we could never have got ourselves. As for the wildlife — we saw far more than we ever imagined we would. Elephants, lions, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, hippos — the lot. As a first safari, I couldn’t have asked for more. Would recommend without hesitation.

Great Experience with Tanzania Safari Experience

We had an amazing safari with Tanzania Safari Experience, and honestly the whole trip was put together really well by Laurent and his team. From our first message to the last day, they were easy to reach, quick to reply, and clear about everything. The plan made sense, the timing was smooth, and we didn’t have to stress about anything. Uncle J was a big part of what made it special. He knows the parks incredibly well and seems to notice things before anyone else. He’d position the vehicle perfectly for photos and often got us to sightings before the crowds built up. We were lucky to see [your highlights: migration / lions / cheetahs / elephants / a crossing], and every drive felt exciting and different. The vehicle was comfortable and in good shape, and everything ran on schedule. If you’re looking for a well-organized safari with a great guide, I’d definitely recommend Tanzania Safari Experience.

An absolutely brilliant tour / travel company

What can I say. How do you explain PERFECTION. I will try. From the outset of our trip Ramadhan and Laurent were excellent. We gave them our requirements and budget and they prepared a program that was outstanding. The whole safari went like clockwork. We were met and briefed by Ramadhan on our arrival and introduced to our driver and guide extraordinar Ngoi. We visited Tarangier, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and the Ngorongoro Crater and Zanzibar. Absolutely brilliant trip, we saw the most extraordinary game. All the accommodation arranged for us was magnificent, especially the tented camps, where we were visited by a lion and elephant, scary but exhilarating. So if you are looking for an unforgettable experience look no further than Laurent and Ramadhan from Tanzania Safari Experience. They truly put clients first and foremost and deliver on their promises. Cheers from a very satisfied Chris and Terri Harvey

Everything You Need to Know About Your Safari

Every safari adventure begins with a question. Whether it’s your first or second time, it’s natural to wonder about the best time to visit, what to pack, or how the journey works. Here, we’ve answered the most common questions travelers ask before booking their Tanzania safari, so you can plan with confidence and look forward to unforgettable memories.

Yes, this is absolutely possible and one of the most efficient safari styles in Tanzania. With direct flights from Zanzibar to Serengeti, you avoid long road transfers and land directly inside the park at Seronera Airstrip. This means your safari starts almost immediately after arrival, giving you more time in the field instead of on the road.

In practice, the three days are carefully structured to maximize wildlife viewing. You still enjoy multiple game drives, including a full-day exploration of Central Serengeti. Many travelers are surprised by how much ground they cover in such a short time because everything is designed around time efficiency and real wildlife movement patterns.

At Tanzania Safari Experience, we find this duration works especially well for travelers combining Zanzibar beach holidays with a short but high-quality safari experience. It is short, but not rushed when planned properly.
